ELLICOTT CITY, MD -- HCPSS-TV has won three 2009 Aegis Awards for its original programs "Parent-Teacher Connection," "Books Alive!" and "Encuentros."
The Aegis Awards are the video industry's premier competition for peer recognition of outstanding video productions and non-network TV commercials. All three shows were honored in the Education Category for outstanding production quality by a panel of judges representing industry professionals from around the country. "Parent-Teacher Connection" was recognized as a winning entry in the competition. "Books Alive!" and "Encuentros," which both debuted in 2008-09, were finalists in the Education Category.
"Parent-Teacher Connection"" has anchored the HCPSS TV cable television line up for the past 12 years. The show features vignettes on school system programs, staff and local educational issues of importance to Howard County parents.
"Books Alive!" features studio-based interviews with some of the most celebrated literary figures in the country. The show's rapid rise in popularity with students, teachers, and the general public can be attributed to host Barb LangridgeÕ' ability to bring to the HCPSS-TV studio prominent authors such as Marc Brown, Laurie Halse Anderson, Gail Carson Levine, and many others.
"Encuentros" is HCPSS-TV's first cable television program produced entirely in Spanish. This innovative program is a joint production between the school system's Television Services and Hispanic Achievement Offices. The program is instrumental in disseminating school information to Howard County's Hispanic population and providing Hispanic parents with tips to help their children achieve success in the classroom.
