With the holiday season quickly approaching, thoughts of gifts are on the minds of many. This year, consider giving the greatest gift of all – the gift of life.
Building on its Summer of Service partnership with the American Red Cross, Howard County Government is sponsoring a special Iron Heart Blood Drive at the Florence Bain Senior Center in Columbia on December 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Although all blood drives provide great opportunities to give blood, this one is special because you’ll have the chance to meet an incredible young man whose story of survival wouldn’t be possible without donors like you. Shortly after finishing high school in the summer of 2004, Brian Boyle – a.k.a. Iron Heart – was in a near-fatal traffic accident. After dying on the operating table eight times and receiving 36 blood transfusions later, he pulled through and by 2007 completed his first Ironman Triathlon. He has since completed several more and is currently a spokesperson for the Red Cross and a Nike/Livestrong athlete. Read more about his incredible story in the attached letter.
At the blood drive you’ll have a chance to speak with Brian and receive a limited edition copy of his book, Iron Heart. Space is limited and appointments are required, so sign up today at the American Red Cross
