The Howard County Lyme Awareness group is sponsoring an event on June 27th at the Howard County Library's Central Branch on How to Avoid Tick Bites: Personal Protection, Prevention, and Landscape Modifications (FREE Seminar) from 6:30-8:30pm.
Maryland is one of the top ten states most affected by Lyme Disease and Howard County is the second hardest hit county in the state according to the Howard County Health Department. Summer is here and with it comes concerns about being bitten by disease-transmitting ticks. Information on Lyme disease symptoms, ticks and their habitats, tick repellents, protective outdoor-clothing, and suggestions on modifications to home landscapes to reduce tick encounters will be presented through PowerPoint slides by Dr. Ron Hamlen, Ph.D.
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
*Recognize symptoms *Avoid tick habitats *Use tick repellents and tick-protective clothing effectively *Modify their home landscape to reduce tick populations *Lessen their anxiety about the outdoors and tick bites.
Our presenter, Dr. Ron Hamlen, is the vice-chair of the Southeast Pennsylvania Lyme Disease Association and an active member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS). To review some of his tick borne disease related publications, please click here.
Register here for this FREE event so we can be sure to provide enough handouts for all.
