Independent MObile JOurnalism Showcasing the "mojo" of HOward COunty

Christmas is upon us again this year, which means time for giving, family, and of course shopping. As you receive the latest and greatest gifts of technology this year, it is important that you choose to do the right thing when it comes to recycling the pieces that they are replacing.

Many estimates have found that as a nation we recycle less than 20% of the total amount of electronics that are disposed of each year. This means that 80% of items are disposed of in a landfill or in an incinerator. Disposal in this manner has two downfalls: first, the items release chemicals that pollute the environment, and second their materials are unable to be recovered, recycled, and reused to make something else.

As the holidays pass and the New Year begins, please take the time to transport your old electronics to an electronics recycling location near you.

Happy Holiday’s and a blessed New Year.
