CAC of Howard County Named a Baltimore Sun "Top Workplace"

The Community Action Council of Howard County is pleased to announce that it has been named a Baltimore Sun “Top Workplace” for 2011.  The contest was open to all for-profit or not-for-profit public and private companies with no less than 50 employees.

“We are very excited about this honor,” said Bita Dayhoff, a 20-plus year veteran of the Community Action Council and its President.  “We have extremely dedicated employees who are tireless advocates for the needs of Howard County’s low-income residents.  We know how stressful the job can be, and we do our best to support our employees, be sensitive to their needs and make sure they know they are an important part of our team.”

Businesses that earned a spot on the Baltimore Sun’s Top Workplaces’ list were selected based on surveys completed by employees.  Those surveys looked at leadership, opportunities for advancement, workplace flexibility, compensation and benefits.  There were also questions on the survey like:  are new ideas encouraged, do you feel appreciated, are you kept informed, and does your supervisor listen to you.

“Most people think that Howard County is an affluent community, and generally that is true.  But in today’s challenging economy, there are still many families struggling to keep a roof over their head, put food on the table, buy school supplies and warm coats for their children.  Bita and her staff do an amazing job of helping individuals and families escape the vicious cycle of poverty.  When you are part of something so meaningful, it just makes you feel good about your job,” said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman.

The survey results will be published on December 4 in the Top Workplaces special magazine section that will be inserted in the Sunday Sun and online at the baltmoresun.com.

To celebrate the success of the organization in creating a positive working environment, an award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 30 at 6 p.m. at The Baltimore Sun, 501 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD.
