COLUMBIA, MD -- The Baltimore Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce the selection of David A. Carney, founding partner of Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett & Scherr LLP as the recipient of the 2009 National Pike Good Scout Award.
The presentation of this award will be at a breakfast held on Thursday, October 29th at Turf Valley from 7:30 to 9:00 AM. This award is presented to extraordinary community leaders in recognition of their outstanding contributions to improving the quality of life in Howard County. For more than 30 years, David Carney has been a leader in the Howard County community, helping countless organizations throughout the development of Columbia and the surrounding areas and exemplifying those qualities found in the Scout Oath and Law. More than 300 people will gather to honor David.
David (Dave) Carney co-founded the firm that is now known as Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett and Scherr more than three decades ago. He has over 40 years of experience in land use law, including zoning, development, subdivision, administrative and construction law. Mr. Carney has a talent for understanding land issues and client needs that enables him to conceptualize projects, anticipate issues, and propose options to his clients.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, he has served as chair of the Economic Development Authority board, served many years on the Judicial Nominating Commission, and has held numerous other appointed and volunteer positions in the County and State. He is past president of the Howard County Bar Association. Despite a very full professional workload, he has consistently accepted numerous pro bono or reduced-fee cases for local religious and charitable organizations, resulting in the construction of many nonprofit development projects throughout the County.
The goal of this event is to honor David's long-standing commitment to the Howard County community, and to raise more than $100,000 in support of Scouting programs that serve 3,700 youth throughout Howard County.
