Board of Education Regular Meeting & Public Work Session Nov 5

The Howard County Board of Education will hold a regularly scheduled meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009, in the Board Room at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108 in Ellicott City.



Both the afternoon and the evening session, which convenes at 7:30 p.m., will begin with a “Public Forum,” when members of the public may address the Board on any topic other than those for which a formal public hearing process exists. Advanced sign up is preferred.

HoCo's Nancy Koepsell Inducted To Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame

Long-time Howard County resident Nancy Koepsell was one of 48 people inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame today during the Senior Citizen Hall of Fame Award luncheon in Glen Burnie. Koepsell, who is 87 and lives at Vantage House in Columbia, was nominated by Frank Chase for her role in the creation and continuing success of the Spotlight on Seniors cable television program.

Middle School Gifted and Talented Testing

Howard County public schools are accepting nominations to test grade 5 students for possible inclusion in middle school G/T classes (English, mathematics, science, and social studies) for the 2010-2011 school year.



Students who are currently participating in above grade level mathematics or reading and students who performed at the advanced level in mathematics or reading on the Maryland School Assessments have already been nominated for testing.

H1N1 Vaccinations Begin In Public Schools

The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) has begun to receive doses of H1N1 vaccine – in the form of FluMist® and injectible vaccine. The HCHD receives all the vaccine for the county. As the vaccine comes in, it will be administered as soon as possible to those most vulnerable to the H1N1 flu, including children ages 6 months through 24 years old. Howard County General Hospital Implements Visitor Restrictions

Because of the dramatic increase in the number of reported cases of H1N1 in Howard County and because this increase is particularly prominent in the pediatric population, Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine has decided to make temporary changes to our visitation guidelines beginning at noon today.
