Police Investigating Suspicious Fire In Columbia

Howard County police are investigating an incident where a deceased woman and a critically injured man were found following a fire in the apartment where they lived. Both appeared to have sustained injuries that were unrelated to the fire. Detectives are investigating the causes of the injuries.



Fire and rescue personnel responded to the 6000 block of Majors Lane in Columbia at 2:42 p.m. for a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a fire. …

Major Traffic Delays Expected Sunday Around Centennial Park

Major traffic delays are expected on Sunday on Md. 108 and surrounding roads for the Aflac Iron Girl Triathlon. Motorists are advised to use caution when sharing the roads with an anticipated 2,000 participants.



From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Md. 108 will be closed to westbound traffic between Ten Mills Road and Centennial Lane. Southbound Centennial Lane from the park entrance to Md. 108 will also be closed.

BGE Issues Hot Weather Advisory for Central Maryland

Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, along with PJM, the electric power grid for 13 states and the District of Columbia, today announced an electric power advisory, meaning higher than usual demand for electricity is expected for today due to the region’s continuing hot weather.

Valley Mede Neighborhood Sewer Corrosion Repairs

A Howard County construction project to repair a sewer main in the vicinity of the Valley Mede neighborhood, adjacent to U.S. Route 40 in Ellicott City has begun. The project will include the inspecting and lining of approximately 5,000 linear feet of sewer main. Weather permitting, the project should be completed in 60 days.

Blizzard Update From Ken Ulman - Friday February 12

As the snowiest week in Howard County history draws to a close, I want

Snow Load and Structural Stability

With the large amount of snowfall over the last weekend, and with the possibility of an additional 10” – 20” on the way, there will be a significant amount of additional weight or “live load” on our roofs.
