Third Graders Enjoy Reward for Raising Money

      Students sometimes have fantasies of engulfing a teacher in toilet paper or hurling water balloons in an instructor’s direction. 

      Those fantasies became realities for third graders during an assembly at Elkridge Elementary School on June 10.  The third-grade teaching team staged the assembly to reward the 153 third graders for raising more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS). Relay For Life of Howard County at Hammond High School Raises $190,000 for American Cancer Society

  The battle against cancer gained a lot of local momentum June 3rd and 4th when 800 people participated in the 16th annual Relay For Life of Howard County at Hammond High School. The Relay was an overnight event to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Opening Night of Midsummer Night's Dream at Patapsco Female Institute

I didn't really want to go, but all the family was going (CJ, young son, and Jane), so we packed up  a picnic dinner and headed off to Mt. Ida, Ellicott City.   The Patapsco Female Institute is an amazing renovation/ruins of an old stone school.  It's got a resident ghost, Annie Van Derlot, and is the site of weddings and receptions.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15

In observance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, the Howard County Office on Aging’s Ombudsman and SPRING programs will partner with Howard County Police to raise awareness of Elder Abuse.
