I remember the Columbia Mall jingle. I also remember the song for Columbia:

"It's a place to work / a place to play / but most of all / from day to day / it's a kind of place / where you belong. At Columbia, MD / it's where you be-long / at Columbia Maryland / it's where you be----lo0oong"

Wow. A song for Columbia. That sounds familiar. I need to hear it again, but then I'm afraid it won't leave me like the mall jingle. :-)

For the sanity of all those who might hear it, I'll refrain from singing it myself and uploading the version -- though the tune might make you remember. I'm really surprised I can't find it online anywhere

Mike,
I believe it went something more like this:

"The Mall in Columbia...The Mall in Columbia...It's all in Columbia...at the Columbia Mall."

Now that's a piece of writing!

HA!

I was referring to the "Columbia" song, which is definitely different from the "Columbia Mall" song. I remember the mall jingle as a childish little ditty with no lyrical depth and a less than catchy tune

Michael & Wordbones - Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend at a secret location to retrieve a cassette of the jingle - how sad if I've had the wrong yet simple lyrics stuck in my brain for so long. But I will post! Next assignment: find the "Columbia" song! ~Mike

Please also post the song. If you can't find a place to put it, please let me know and I'll post it on my website. It would be great to hear the old stuff again!

I couldn't remember the jingle until played at the end. Then a big smile broke out. A wonderful bit of podcasting

Well, I stand corrected on the lyrics. They are actually: "All in Columbia, At the Mall in Columbia, We're all in Columbia, in Columbia Mall. We're all in Columbia, At the Mall in Columbia, We're all in Columbia..." So it is the center of town! Or perhaps was the local storm shelter. Well, no more profound and equally infectious. My apologies! I've attached the MP3 for your own personal library. ;-)

What memories that brings back. Thanks!!! Now you need to find the Columbia song - not just the one for the mall. Well done!

I remember both of them, but it's the Columbia song that's strongest in my mind.

"Co-lum-bi-aaaaaaaaaa Maryland. It's where you belong!"
